Rachel Jewett is a second year clinical psychology PhD student at Ryerson University under the supervision of Dr. Michelle Dionne in the Ryerson Department of Psychology and Dr. Natalie Durand-Bush in the School of Human Kinetics at the University of Ottawa. Rachel completed a Master of Arts at Ryerson University, and a Master of Science in Sport Psychology and Bachelor of Kinesiology at the University of Toronto. In addition to pursuing training in clinical psychology, Rachel is a student member of the Canadian Sport Psychology Association (CSPA) and is completing an applied internship to become a Mental Performance Consultant, predominantly through her work with the University of Toronto Varsity Track and Field team. In addition to her educational and professional experiences, Rachel has a history of participation in high performance sport. She competed in heptathlon and middle distance running during her varsity university career and continues to enjoy running competitively. Rachel’s research interests lie in exploring university and elite athlete mental health and well-being, including the relationship between competitive sport culture and athletes’ experiences of mental health challenges. She is also interested in athletes’ experiences with mental healthcare, including the importance of clinicians’ sport experience for effective psychological treatment, and barriers and facilitators to athletes accessing care.
